Fundación Asha-Kiran sets out from a very simple motto:

"Life is a series of single moments"

This motto appears to us as a useful and necessary one to keep in mind, given the understanding of the importance for basic needs to be met, or that they at least not constitute an obstacle for every instant being lived with the highest possible quality . Our Foundation understands 'quality' as the capacity and opportunity that every human being has to feel sure of himself at every moment, with a perspective of his own life; to be able to choose; to look eagerly towards the future with full vitality. With this motto as our starting point, we think that the opportunities for development which we wish to provide can become or act as key factors in the arising of one of those quality moments which may, in turn, be of paramount importance in a person's life.

At Fundación Asha-Kiran , we realize that poverty is , above all, the lack of the possibility to make choices in life . When a person does not have a chance to choose his future, to live life with vitality and to fulfill his aspirations, his basic rights as a human being are denied. From this perspective, wealth means for us the inner state of a human being who evolves and develops in accordance with a higher aspiration.

Thus, due to the need to provide opportunities as a consequence of implementing people's fundamental rights, the beneficiaries of our work are, in a direct and foremost way, children and youngsters of the lower castes in India, with the commitment to be close to them and to support their lives and hopes by providing an alternative to the oversight of their rights, abandonment, indifference and neglect.

With this end in view, one of our main objectives is to make people aware of the unworthy conditions in which a great part of humanity lives, so that justice and respect for human rights may be possible worldwide and, particularly, the dissemination and implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

Objetives

• To prevent instances of mistreatment and/or degrading living conditions.
• To facilitate and foster the children's participation - as well as that of their milieu - in their own personal development.
• To facilitate community development processes which are lasting, sustainable and autonomous.
• To foment and improve positive habits in:

  • Education
  • Coexistence and respect within the framework of CCR rights
• To carry out creative, cultural, educational, and leisure time activities geared towards the socialization and joint development of the community. 
• To back up local NGO's in non-formal education.
